Nel 1954 Alberto Sordi interpreta 13 film, ed è proprio il tredicesimo a portargli fortuna, il film è “Un americano a Roma”, il personaggio è Nando Moriconi, detto l’Americano, che era apparso per la prima volta in uno sketch del film "Un giorno in pretura". Qui c’erano già tutti i caratteri del personaggio: l’abbigliamento (indossa una maglietta, oggi si chiama t-shirt, blue jeans, cinghia di cuoio al polso); l’intercalare è: “A me mi ha bloccato la guerra, se non c’era la guerra a quest’ora ero nel Kansas City”. La macchietta piacque molto, sia al pubblico di quartiere che agli intellettuali che ne ripetevano le battute. Nando Moriconi divenne così il protagonista di un film.
